The most exciting thing about having a baby due in September is knowing that soon I will legitimately be able to play with toys again. Having said this I have been “illegitimately” playing with toys throughout my entire twenties – this has included building Lego dioramas in the living room, constructing elaborate marble runs and recreating classic stories with Disney Infinity figures on the Playstation 4.
I think all Dads are just big kids at heart – we can pretend we’re not, but the lull of the latest gadget, the colourful displays in the window of our local toy shop and the disappointed look on the faces of our other halves when we excitedly freak out over finding a mint condition vintage Buzz Lightyear, usually serves to re-ignite our passion for ‘play’!
The latest toy that my heart desires is the Razor Crazy Kart! Sure it is for ages 9+, but at 28 that is an age bracket I totally fit in to. It is an electric powered go kart with a unique drift system that allows the driver to vary the rear caster angle so you can drive and drift forward, backward, sideways, diagonally, and everything in between. Check out the ad below, and afterwards, if you don’t want one for you and your kids, I will eat my hat.
The Kart is priced at £399.99 from Toys R Us, which is a little rich for my blood, but it doesn’t stop me from really wanting to cruise the mean streets of Chelmsford on it.
Some kid’s toys though are just plain weird. In the latest episode of the ‘Y!kes my Girlfriend’s Pregnant’ podcast we took a look at some of the strangest toys available, including a cuddly dog whose tongue drips real saliva. Sounds charming doesn’t it? However, there aren’t many toys more unusual than the one below. Introducing Lalaloopsy Babies Diaper Surprise dolls! Feed your Lalaloopsy Baby water, push her belly button, and find a surprise in her diaper! Yes, Lalaloopsy Babies Diaper Surprise magically poos charms! You can then even make bracelets with the colourful faecal matter that has just been deposited.
Inspired by the fact that anything seems to go in the kids toy market these days, I thought I would have ago at creating my own breakout hit. For decades children have loved fighting each other, whether it is with Nerf guns, playing laser tag or with water pistols. So inspired by this I have taken things to the next level and created the Party-a-Tron Cannon 5000 – sure to be the next big thing in the future of urban child warfare!
You can check out my first test of the cannon in the video below. As you will see, during the test the tension was palpable, I had a look of fear in my eyes and adrenalin coursed through my veins. I did not know if the whole thing would just explode in my hands, causing irreparable damage to both my t-shirt and face, or work like a charm! Please be advised – you watch the video below at your own risk.
And on that literal bombshell, I’m off toy shopping.
